an incomplete taxonomy of christmas music
an incomplete taxonomy of christmas music
here’s a fun personality quiz type question for comic fans: if you were a comic writer, what would be the number one thing audiences would complain about your writing? like for me, i would absolutely go the geoff johns route of retconning everything i don’t like and inserting all of my favorite fan theories
the way fantasy fans talk of orcs never has hitler particles radiating less than 200 rems
“we are creating the concept for a humanoid species that is defined by exhibiting looks and behaviors seen as Barbaric, Savage and Uncivilized to a majority white audience” <- statement dreamt up by the utterly deranged
its actually really progressive you see. we think the Savage Aggressive Barbarians would make great animalistic dominant tops with huge dicks
hmo.. dickkori spiderman kiss but dick's hanging from the trapeze bars
bro your dickkori art is delicious i need fifteen more by yesterday
sorry I kinda took advantage of artistic freedom haha, it’s not really a spidey kiss because kori can fly she doesn’t even need him to be fully vertical lol
Notes:
- Second poll will remain open until 50 years from publishing
- Bot options share a UUID, making a vote for either count for both
- Previously, a vote in the first poll counted for both options in the second
- A vote for the second poll increases the vote count for both polls, despite the first ostensibly being closed
I think if you look closely at the results you will actually find that the horsie is simply just more popular than the crab. Nothing more to it
Me when its 1 day after Halloween and the capitalists are already blasting the christmas sale commercials
i do have affection for his no mans land costume now
Why do they deserve to win?
Koriand'r
Mackenzie Bock
Starfire being a stand in for woc because the code made it illegal to have two characters of color– y'all are just saying things. nowhere is this ever indicated what are you talking about??? where did you even get that from??? is that even in the comics code??? what???
I have the Titans companion, and here’s what Perez said inspired Starfire:
“I basically imagined her as Red Sonja in space…two people I used as my mental inspiration were my ex-wife and a porn star named Rosemary Lorenz” These are all white women.
I know there’s rumors going around that Perez based her on a Black woman, but that is apparently not true, or if it is, she’s one of many influences. That doesn’t make okay or right for racists to complain when she’s cast as Black. She works really well as a Black woman and there’s no need to justify that casting. But we shouldn’t spread misinfo that George and Marv intentionally coded her as such either, imo.
She’s still orange in the TT cartoon. Changing curly hair to straight can be considered a symptom of a overall cultural bias toward certain features due to their association with certain races, and I get complaints about that, and discussion about it is warranted, but she wasn’t actually whitewashed in the direct sense.
Edit: and now she’s winning over an actual Black character. oh well.
I wanted to update that I did get a reply about the definition of whitewashing and how it could apply to Kory etc that made a good point…
I still think the Comics Code misnfo is pretty bad and I wanted to reblog again just to reiterate that it’s wrong. And I think it’s really not great she’s still winning over an actual black character that was cast as white. Kinda shows how skewed this site’s priorities can get.
Yeah the misinformation on this one is wild. You guys know you can look this up, right? Here’s the full text of the 1971 update to the Code, which is the one that would have been current when the NTT were created. The only mention of race is: “Ridicule or attack on any religious or racial group is never permissible.” Nothing about only having one character of color in a comic, because that’s nonsense. (Also like…they published Black Panther comics then. I promise you those had multiple Black people in them. Like, a whole country of them.)
Also this was in @ladyloveandjustice’s tags but Kory’s hair was big and curly in the 80s because it was the 80s. They smoothed it in the 2000s because styles changed.
There is a conversation to be had with both Kory and Raven about creator intent vs. fan interpretation vs. appropriation. Does it “count” if the creators intended something they never carried out? (Which it sounds like with Kory they didn’t.) Does it “count” if fans read something into the text the creators never intended? Do we give credit to the creators for inclusion when actually they were just appropriating?
But none of that changes that Mackenzie Bock is an actual Black character. Come on.
